Indigenous Arts Festival
The Indigenous Arts Festival celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts and Culture. This 11 day event starts on Wednesday 5 February with the opening ceremony featuring the amazing soprano and composer Deborah Cheetham. There will be a range of amazing artists presenting music, film, dance and visual arts.
Head in to Melbourne on Saturday 8 February for this amazing line up of events, singers, workshops and markets.
Start your day at Art Play at Birrurung Marr to listen to a workshop on improvised music and Indigenous stories. Open 10:00am - 12:00pm, FREE.
Ghost Net Weavers
Once you have been amazed with the gum leaf music, head to the Lower Terrace of Birriung Marr to be amazed at the Ghost Net Weavers, who make amazing art from cast off fishing nets collected form beaches. Talk with the artists or make your own ghost net art. 12:00pm - 6:00pm. FREE
Stop for a cuppa anywhere along the beautiful Yarra River and rest your mind, getting ready for the next amazing show.
At 1:00pm, listen to the irrepressible Archie Roach. Such spirit and talent, cannot be missed. make sure you get your kids there to listen to the amazing stories he tells through song. Main Stage, Federation Square. 1:00pm FREE
Lunch, and then wander over to the Earth Stage, Lower Terrace Birrung Marr and join in the cultural gathering that is the Koorioboree to share and present the resilience of the Koorie culture. 3:00pm, FREE.
Grab your seat at the Earth Stage, Lower Terrace Birrarung Marr to see the Torres Strait Islander Dance Group. 5:00pm, FREE.
And then walk up to federation Square, River Terrace and peruse the amazing Koorie Night Market. Open 12:00pm - 8:00pm, FREE
If you are able to keep going, grab some dinner and set up ready to hear the amazing voice of Jessica Mauboy performing songs such as Beautiful on the Federation Square Main Stage. 7:30pm, FREE
