Melbourne Fringe is all about diversity; creative artists giving us unadulterated, un-curated and unexpected expressions of art. It culminates in 400 plus events in over 160 venues in what's expected to be a bumper crop of more than 350,000 people immersing themselves in what is the lifeblood of our great city. It's here to shake up the hierarchy, so be brave and unafraid to explore and change the way you see the world!

The Fringe runs from 14 September to 1 October 2017 and is filled with performances, dance, live art, social events, comedy, cabaret, kid's events and a whole lot more. Check out the 2017 Event Program and start booking your favourites so you don't miss out. If you're craving for more than 2.5 weeks of art, becoming a Fringe Dweller just might be the ticket for you.

Not only do we live in the most liveable city, it's a city that gives back in the form of lots of free events at the Fringe. It just may surprise you just how many freebie events there are. Starting with the inanimate (though that could be debatable), the Abbotsford Convent is hosting Fringe Furniture that ranges from the reassuringly practical to the confusingly obtuse. It pushes the boundaries of cutting-edge industrial design. Artists have stepped up and considered the transcendental power of design to help bring us closer. Bet you didn't think a chair could do that, right?

Other freebies include a Balinese Dance Performance at South Melbourne Markets & Footscray Community Art Centre; a Calypso wild cruise ship party on dry land; an Improv Conspiracy Theatre - a whole 60 minutes of free comedy open house and a host of other shows, more than you can count on ten fingers and ten toes put together. Even the kids get some free events like Express Yourself, a seriously fun event for kids who are bold, brazen and who reckon that colour coding humans into blue and pink is bonkers. Freebies can entail bookings for numbers, so be sure check it out on the events page.

Choose the Guide Me section of Fringe on the What's On page to find the Freebies, Made by Fringe, Indigenous Guide to Fringe, Queer Guide to Fringe, Feminist Guide to Fringe, Kids Club, Festival Club, Member Discount and Early Bird Discount events. You can narrow down your choices by choosing More Filters and choose according to dates, genres, locations, venues, and more. It's all too easy to find what you're looking for and perhaps make a few other discoveries to challenge you along the way.

The Man in the Mail would appeal to the whole family, touted as a marvel to watch with high levels of skill and an abundance of showmanship. Meet the man who lives in a box and travels the world by mail in an adventure tale set at the dawn of the 20th Century. A mash-up of steampunk and circus, it'll go beyond what your imagination can conjure. Beginning with the Arty Farty Opening Party for free, Geraldine Quinn and DJ Whiskey Houston are on the welcoming committee of a party you can't afford to miss. The Awards Night and After Party also for free, is dead set about the party not being over till the last mirror ball has been packed away. Awards will be awarded, hugs will be hugged and dance moves will be busted for the final, glorious farewell.

If you think there's a lot already mentioned here, it's not over yet. All the in-betweens, the multitude of events, a plethora of choices that is the Fringe; be alarmed and charmed. From Diary of a Power Pussy, when it's time to grow a vagina; Fringe Wives Club, a glittery clittery conSENSUAL party; It's Not Me, It's Lou, a silly musical comedy; Best of the Boardwalk, a collection of the best circus acts in Melbourne; Accidental Cougar (the title says it all); Melbourne favourites, comedians like Arj Barker and the Umbilical Brothers and a whole lot more, you best get cracking!

Melbourne Fringe doesn't happen without a whole lot of support. With great power comes responsibility. Helping build the culture-makers that change the world comes at a cost, so give them your money (please)! Your donation will help fund vital and career-defining Artist Development programs. Every bit helps change the world. A registered non-profit organisation, they'll love you forever and ever and give you recognition and street cred in return. If they can turn a major city into a thriving hub of genre-defining art for 2.5 weeks, imagine what they can do with your donation!
