When you get the best trainers, nutritionists and fitness identities in the one place alongside the latest fitness products and classes you can't help but feel inspired. This year's attendees definitely got a motivational boost and discovered the latest trends in fitness and health at the Fitness Show, which ran from the 13-15 October at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The 2017 Fitness Show, formerly the Fitness & Health Expo, featured specific zones that were designed to help guide your way around based on your needs, whether your goal is to build muscle or achieve general wellness:

ACTIVE: for those interested in leading a healthy and active lifestyle;

STRENGTH: for bodybuilding and strength training enthusiasts

INDUSTRY: for those in the fitness and health industry interested in discovering new products, trends and meeting other like-minded professionals.

There is no time like the present to get started, which is exactly what I did at the Fitness Show – you can trial products, try on clothing and accessories, get involved in different classes, train with fitness icons like Ashy Bines, compete in events and listen to industry experts.

With almost a million followers, Ashy Bines is a popular fitness icon and the turnout to her pre-show event was staggering. The whole space was filled with fans pumping along to the music.

With an average knowledge of working out and maintaining fitness, I felt completely at ease wandering around and talking to the friendly exhibitors.

One of these exhibitors was Stealth. This is a new way of working out your abs by making it fun - using a smartphone! Play a challenging game that uses both concentration and stamina to push your body to the limit; in less than 3 minutes a day, you can add a core training workout to your daily schedule.
Things to Do:

Healthy Living Stage - learn how to make simple delicious sugar free recipes plus get tips on topics relating to mind, body and living a healthy lifestyle. Guests included the Natural Nutritionist Steph Lowe and Amy Giannotti.

Steph showed us how to make a choc avocado smoothie with chia seeds and almond milk - it was very filling and tasted superb. She also presented a free seminar on Becoming a Real Food Athlete which dispelled myths of sports nutrition companies and their money-centric marketing campaigns, dogmatic carbohydrate guidelines.

The Arena - step outside your comfort zone and workout with celeb trainers including Lola Berry, Andrew Papadopoulous, Tim Robards, Dan Conn, Rachel Dillon and Lauren Simpson. This area also featured a CrossFit workshop by legend of the sport, Rob Forte, and a CrossFit competition facilitated by him.

Lola Berry got us moving and interested in yoga for newbies as she took the class through a series of liberating poses and movements that promote balance and strength. It was very enjoyable and I could see myself participating in a few yoga classes at the local gym!

Muscle Beach - new to 2017, witness the most aesthetic physiques in the world today running open workouts in a Venice Beach-style fully equipped gym. Some of the top names in bodybuilding included Jeff Seid, Calum von Moger, Lauren Simpson, Zac Perna, Rachel Dillon, Robbie Frame and Rosanna Arkle.

Jaybird Muscle & Model Stage - The iCompete Natural Pro Night of Champions is Australia's first Pro Show and offered a prize pool of $50,000 split across each of the seven divisions: Men's Bodybuilding PRO, Ms Figure PRO, Fitness Model PRO, Men's Fitness PRO, Sports Model PRO, Men's Physique PRO & Bikini Model PRO. The Australian Amateur Muscle & Model Championships was also held across the weekend featuring up to 700 athletes and with a further prize pool of $50,000. Combined, this is Australia's most lucrative prize pool in the sport.

Powerlifting championships - featuring the strongest men and women in the country tackling all-time records in a competition run by Powerlifting Australia.

These are just the tip of the iceberg of what you could do - we spent about 4 hours at the show and did a whole range of things including getting our body composition measured and sampled lots of freebies.

The Fitness Show was open to both industry and the general public from 2pm – 9pm on the Friday and 10am – 5pm on the Saturday and Sunday. If you work in the industry, entry was free if you pre-registered online.

Parking is limited and fairly expensive so I took the train to Southern Cross Station, from which it was a brisk 5-minute walk, or you can catch the 96 St Kilda tram which brings you to the front steps of the Convention building.
