I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.

Fashion for everyone
Melbourne Fashion Week has fashion followers excited way before it starts. This is where new and as-yet-unseen fashions make their debut. But fashion week is much more than that - it is the heralding of spring (and we could do with that after this week's icy temperatures), it brings colour into Melbourne streets and life and it has great fun events that are also free. Everyone can be part of this annual hallmark and very exciting Melbourne event.
MFW Opening Weekend On the weekend of 31st August to 2nd September, the Melbourne Town Hall forecourt will be starting off the week-long event with free DJs and champagne to get you in the mood. To check out the new fashions, the Swanston Room in the Town Hall will feature local independent designer labels.
Beginning on Friday 31st August, street and pop-up runaways will be a daily feature of the MFW. Union Lane and Tattersals Lane will be transformed by fashions showcasing independent labels as well as multicultural, sustainable and indigenous designs. Check for more details here.
There will also be roving models wearing spring collection highlights at pop-up runways around Melbourne Central, GPO steps and Collins Street, featuring ready-to-wear, streetwear and high-end designer wear.

MFW Forecourt at Melbourne Town Hall There is much on offer in the heart of Swanston Street, and it's all free, all week, and open until 10 pm weeknights and 5 pm on the weekend. Lots of major brands will showcase their fashion products including the well-known Kevin Murphy, Specsavers, and Lovables as well as local fashion makers and artisans. There will be many things to do, try, experience and win throughout the hub, bar and lounge areas. A line up of all-female DJs will be spinning each night to add to the fun atmosphere.
Need to make room for your new fashion purchases and do something for someone else? Not-for-profit organisation Wear For Success will be out in force with check-in stations at Town Hall and Collins Square for your pre-loved clothing donations. They help men and women in need to dress appropriately for interviews and get back into the workforce.
