Free L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Events for Real Women
We've all seen them in the magazines and on the catwalks and soon they'll be taking over the city. Wafer-thin, pouty models with silly hair-dos and make-up, and outrageously expensive clothes, all in the name of fashion. My question is "Fashion for whom?". Certainly not for real women who'd like to be stylish on a reasonable budget. But don't make the mistake of thinking everything that's happening at L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival this month is for the rich, the fashionistas or the arty crowd. I've found some accessible, fun and best of all, free events for the real women of Melbourne to enjoy, as part of the festival's cultural Program.
Staged at Melbourne's QV Square, the Lunchtime Style Series are part workshop, part fashion show and part tips from leading experts in the fields of photography, blogging, interior design and fashion styling. They all begin at 1pm so busy working women can fit them in in their lunchtimes. You'll even receive a free gift bag.

Sponsored by the Chapel St Precinct Association, the Chapel of Chic - History of Fashion Walk will take you on a journey not only through this stylish and fashionable area, but through the fascinating history of the people, shops, sewing workshops and knitting mills that made it what it is today. You'll even finish with afternoon tea.
Date: Saturday 10 March Time: 11am to 2pm Venue: Meet outside Country Road, 252 Toorak Rd, South Yarra Tickets: The event is free but you must book. Phone 03 9529 6331 to reserve your place.
Clear your diaries for Tuesday 13 March for Staging Glamour. This one sounds like a lot of fun, but the organisers aren't going to make it easy for you. Leiela (fashions by local designer Lucy Laurita) will be wheeling out a mobile pop-up dressing room into the streets of Melbourne, along with a gaggle of photographers and stylists to provide makeovers and photo shoots for real women. But here's the catch - you can only find out the locations and times on the day through mobile phone and social media. For your chance to be involved you need to 'Like' them on Facebook here.
As an added bonus once the makeovers are done, photos of the lucky participants will be posted on the Facebook page, where you'll have the opportunity to vote for your favourite. The woman with the most votes will win the outfit she was photographed in.

Well, this one's not quite free but it's the next best thing with a measly $2 entry fee. 60 designer stalls, sales with samples and seconds, sweets, homewares, workshops and live music - it will all be happening at the North Melbourne Market Special Designer Event.
Date: Sunday 11 March Time: 10am to 3pm Venue:The Melbourne Lithuanian Club, 40 Errol St, North Melbourne. Tickets: $2 at the door.
Exhibitions There are also some interesting free exhibitions on offer throughout the festival:
Why are they the 'real' women of Melbourne as opposed to fashionistas, the arty and rich. Every woman is a real woman.
Oh it's so ridiculous, expensive clothing, silly hairdos and make up yet you've written a paragraph to supposedly entice these non-fashionista, non-arty, non-rich real women to free events at a festival you've been pouring verbal excrement all over. All women are real women regardless of their size.
I really felt a need to respond to this.
