Fashionistas and the fashionably focused will be in fits of delight this March as the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival makes its return to Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building, in addition to other key locations around town. The festival will bring together a collection of culture, ideas and of course all the latest couture in what is sure to be one hell of a fashion frenzy. The festival will feature a broad range of fashion related events around Melbourne and its adjacent suburbs, starting on March 1st and stretching right up until March 19th. The event will culminate with a week long series of high end runway shows starting on March 14th, when the festival relocates to it's main hub adjacent to the Royal Exhibition Building and the Melbourne Museum.
It all kicks off with the launch of the Autumn/Winter fashion season as the City of Stonnington features a series of events around their retail precincts. Stylish shopping destinations such as Chapel Street, Chadstone Shopping Centre and Toorak Road will all be taking part in the Festival's first Fashion Weekend. This will happen on Saturday March 4th and Sunday March 5th, and will feature exclusive offers in addition to a multitude of activities for fashion enthusiasts of all ages. Visitors will have the opportunity to shop for the best designer collections, while taking in runway shows by all the favourite designers showing off all the new season trends. Best of all, it is FREE to attend.
The largest designer line-up of the Festival will be featured at the Gala Runway night on Tuesday March 14th at Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building. The event will feature two separate runways showcasing collections from some of Australia's favourite designers. The Gala Runway will be presented by David Jones and Vogue Australia
Australia's leading and emerging designers are also set to take part in a series of Premium Runway events also at the Royal Exhibition Building. These particular shows will start on Wednesday March 13th and run up until Sunday March 19th. The following designers will be showcasing their latest collections:
Other highlights at the festival will also include The National Graduate Showcase on Sunday March 19th, and the Virgin Australia Grand Showcase on Thursday March 16th. The National Graduate Showcase celebrates the next generation of Australian fashion design talent, picked from renowned design institutions and universities across Australia. The Virgin Australia Grand Showcase will highlight designs from one of Australia's most successful and globally recognised designers, Camilla and Marc. Both events will also be held at the Royal Exhibition Building.
Australian menswear designers will also be making a most welcome appearance at the festival, with a GQ Australia Menswear Runway set for Friday March 17th at 9pm.

Ticket holders to the GQ Menswear Runway will also be invited to the GQ after party at Spice Market. To make everyone feel welcome, guests will be provided with a complementary Asahi beer on arrival.
Myer will also be holding their very own Fashion Runway at their flagship store on Bourke Street. Jennifer Hawkins will headline the Runway and VIP shopping event, which is set to feature a night full of giveaways, special guests, exclusive offers and live entertainment.

Melbourne's famous nightlife will also be stepping up to the plate with the popular Festival Bar, located at The Plaza within the Melbourne Museum Precinct. The Festival Bar will be open daily from March 14th right up until March 19th, serving up concoctions in the form of Asahi Super Dry, 6FT6 Wines as well as many other favourites. The immersive 6Ft6 Wine Garden will also aim to to create many memorable festival moments pre and post show, with a pop-up space and social hub designed for relaxation while at the same time being the ideal viewing area to take in all the action.
Complimentary beauty touch ups will also be on offer for guests who really want to be runway ready. The Priceline Pharmacy Festival of Beauty Pop-Up will be the chosen destination to fulfill these desires. Here many beauty advisors will be sharing and creating the latest runway trends. The idea is for guests to be part of the red carpet arrivals, in addition to sampling some food and drink while being pampered and thoroughly entertained with live music and much more. The Plaza precinct is open daily from 5:30pm to 11pm.
The Chandon S Bar will also be making an appearance, allowing guests to sample Chandon's latest and greatest orange inspired concoction. It's also another ideal place to take in the red carpet arrivals and live entertainment. The Chandon S Bar is also located at the Festival Plaza Melbourne Museum Precinct. Entry is also FREE.
There are also a plethora of other activities and events to take part in during the festival. They include everything from necklace-making workshops, Leona Edmiston styling sessions, Fashion Writing Workshops, a Global Indigenous Runway and a VIP backstage experience with Cirque du Soleil.
