Did you know that the didgeridoo, lovingly known as the didge, is one of the oldest wind instruments in the world? It is also known as the "yidaki" in the indigenous languages. Melbourne celebrates the didge at an annual event called the
Didgeridoo and Cultural Festival .
The festival is all about celebrating the Aboriginal culture through musical and dance performances, art, storytelling and bush tucker among other things. You can also participate in didgeridoo workshops and get your first lesson on playing this beautiful instrument.
This festival will be held on Sunday 2 April from 1pm to 9pm at Finn Reserve, Lower Templestowe.
The first Didgeridoo Festival was held in 2010 and annually since then. Many well-renowned performers come from all over Australia to perform, including Ganga Giri, Yidaki Yulugi, Bunna Lawrie, Mark Atkins, Bart Willoughby, Richard Person and more. Meet these legends at this year's festival.
Whether you are an enthusiast of the earthy melodious rhythms of the didgeridoo, or want to learn more about the Aboriginal culture, this festival is not to be missed. Bring the whole family and enjoy a day out with the first peoples of Australia.
