Why not do what everyone else is doing this Melbourne Cup day and take Monday off to have an extended long weekend. That's potentially 4 days and 3 nights to fill with anything that you choose.

So, the question is what to do?

# Go camping: with the weather on the improve and a chance to get away, why not pack the car and make the most of the time you have.

If you're a 4WD enthusiast then I am sure I wont need to tell you that 95 per cent of the 4WD tracks reopen on the 31st of November in Victoria, which is just in time for the long weekend.

# Visit the Mornington Peninsula:
Enjoy the Mornington races for the Sportingbet Peninsula Cup Day on the 3rd of November. With over $40,000 in cash and prizes for the winners of fashion of field, it might be your lucky day.

Visit the #8206 ;">Red Hill craft market on the 2nd of November for fresh produce, hand made items, plants, arts, crafts and cakes. With over 300 stalls there is sure to be something for everyone.

# Visit the Yarra Valley:

#8206 ;">Yarra Glen racecourse craft market is back up and running after a a few years break, you can see the all new revamped market along with all the wonderful stalls ( approximately 300). The market will be on Sunday the 3rd of November.

#8206 ;">Yarra Valley Chocolaterie is the biggest and best around, if the crowds are down make sure to go and test try the chocolate on offer and buy some ice creams.

Melbourne Cup lunches in the Yarra Valley are available at Oakridge Wines and the Vines restaurant .

#Visit the Dandenongs:

Explore the many beautiful gardens with the last of the spring blooms on display. My top three picks are: George Tindale memorial garden, Alfred Nicholas memorial garden, and the Rhododendron garden, are all perfect for a picnic lunch.

The Cuckoo Restauran t is holding a new Ukrainian themed night with all you can eat buffet and Ukrainian band on the 2nd of November.

Puffing Billy Murder, Mystery and Suspense is sure to be an entertaining evening with 3 course dinner, tea and coffee, after dinner chocolates and prizes for the best dressed 1920's- 1930's outfit.
The train departs Belgrave station on the 1st of November at 7:30pm and costs $112 per person. Bookings are required.

#Visit the High Country:

Visit the Mansfield High Country festival from October 25- 5th of November.

Spring Festival grand firework spectacular and concert at the Bright park. Enjoy live music, food stalls, rides, fire and dance along with the fireworks on 2nd of November.
All of this and more are apart of the Bright Spring Festival which runs between October 25th - 5th of November.

Challenge yourself in the Bright 4 Peaks Alpine Climb held over the entire cup weekend from the 2nd until the 5th.

#Visit Ballarat:
Ballarat Festival of Motoring starts on Cup Day (Tuesday 5th) with a show and shine competition along with a long timetable of events for the day. The festival is a celebration of Ballarat's motoring history.

# Get fit and do a fun run:

Victorian road runners are holding The Tan Time Trial on Saturday 2nd of November. Choose to complete 1 or two laps covering a distance of 4 or 8 kilometres. All are welcome and entry is by gold coin donation. The starting point will be Birdwood Avenue 7:30am (opposite Shrine forecourt).

Mansfield High Country Fun Run is on Sunday 3rd of November and you can participate in the half marathon (22km) or the 10km run, 5km run, 1km kids run or the 5km social walk. Entry cost $25 for adults for any of the events with the proceeds going to the Mansfield Hospital.

#8206 ;">Lara fun run is on Sunday 3rd of November with the choice of 10km, 5km and 1.4km kids run with prizes totalling $5,000 to be won. Adult entry cost $29.

Hat Run for Tanzania along the Merri Creek is a fun run with a 12km or 6km option on Sunday 3rd. Entry is $18 for adults.

# If all else fails:

Invite a few friends over to gather in the backyard around the BBQ or spit roast and cut out the cup sweep from the Herald Sun.

Enjoy your cup day weekend and hopefully it will end in a celebratory champagne.
