I am an academic and writer living in Melbourne. I love to travel and I also love writing about all the things Melbourne, regional Victoria and other parts of Australia have to offer.
See Them Before They Race
The race that stops the nation needs no introduction. Everyone knows what happens on the first Tuesday in November - how could we not, it is, after all, a public holiday in Victoria. But there is of course more to the Melbourne Cup, and of course, the entire Spring Racing Carnival.
On Monday, 5th November there will be a colourful procession of thoroughbred horses, their jockeys and trainers in the 35th annual Melbourne Cup Parade, proudly supported by the City of Melbourne. Like every year, people will line Swanston Street in Melbourne to watch this pre-Cup fun event, full of colour and excitement. This public event will take place on Monday, 5 November from 12pm to 2pm starting at Swanston Street (from Bourke Street) and finishing at Federation Square.
After the parade, you can enjoy free entertainment at Federation Square and a final opportunity to see and hear live interviews with the Melbourne Cup final field before the race that stops a nation the following day!
Date: Monday 5 November 2018 Time: 12:00pm - 2:00pm Location: Swanston St , Melbourne, VIC, 3000. The parade will start at Bourke St and end at Federation Square. Booking information: This is a free public event - no bookings required.
