Event:
Melbourne Cup day is one of the most exciting events on the social calendar, and Brisbane serves up countless numbers of celebrations in the best locations around. The Spring Carnival's peak event, with hats, heels, haute couture and maybe even some horses, will go off with a bang again this year, and to help you choose where you want to ring in the race day champion, I've got the details on the best picks for Cup Day celebrations.

Whether you're the type for a dignified soiree at a premier hotel, a relaxed lunch and drinks at a local club or if you're ready to get a bit down and dirty track side, here is a selection of Brisbane's best race day options.

The Exchange Hotel at 131 Edward Street is holding an 18 event on it's elegant rooftop garden. Feel the sun on your fascinator and enjoy live music from special guest James Reyne as you soak up the atmosphere of the day.

This event will run from 11:00am Tuesday November 6th until 3:00am Wednesday the 7th and at only $15 for lunch, you'll have plenty of coin left over to place your bets.

Entry is free with sweepstakes running from Midday until race start.

Book your tables now via functions@theexchange.com.au

The Sofitel Brisbane is selling earlyl bird tickets for Melbourne Cup day, and it's sure to be a day of grand luxury in the Sofitel Ballroom.

The Classic Hits 4KQ Breakfast crew will return to the stage with presenters Laurel Edwards, Gray Clare and Mark Hine entertaining guests throughout the day.

Big screen throughout the ballroom will display the exciting events of Cup Day and guests can indulge in Moet and Chandon on arrival.

Fresh spanner crab and king prawn salad, Moreton bay bug with wasabi leaves and soy jelly, dry aged sirloin steak and seared pink snapper are just a few of the delectable menu choices on offer for the three course luncheon spectacular served up by Executive Chef Patrice Falantin,

Fashion previews by renowned stylist's "id couture" will showcase an array of local and international designs and the hotly contested fashions on the field will once again be a highlight of the day for fashionable guests.

Great prizes are up for grabs throughout the day, and TAB facilities available for betting enthusiasts. One lucky guest will win a fantastic five-night escape for two at Sofitel Los Angeles Beverley Hills, including return airfares for two, courtesy of Virgin Australia.

Popular Brisbane band 'Groove Elements' will keep guests well entertained following the big race; with the party atmosphere continuing at Cuvée Lounge Bar – host of the official hotel after party.

Cuvée Lounge Bar offers guests an inspiring selection of vintage and non-vintage labels from 20 of the world's great champagne houses, complemented by a connoisseur's selection of Australian, European and New World wines and an impressive cocktail menu. Cuvée's resident DJ for the event, DJ Niko will be performing a soulful repertoire of lounge tunes from 3.00pm – which is sure to keep party goers entertained.

Sofitel Melbourne Cup Dday Extravaganza runs from 11:30am until 3:30pm and early bird tickets at $165pp run until the 12th of October.

Regular ticket price is $190pp or a $1850 table of ten.

If that's not quite your style and you'd prefer to be face to face with the action, then you can't miss the Marquee Melbourne Cup, at Eagle Farm, Brisbane.

The next best thing from actually being at Flemington. Corporate tables are available for this red carpet event and guests will be spoiled with four large super screens and plasma screens throughout the marquee.

Amazing live entertainment, sit down lunch from award winning restaurant Brett's Wharf an all day beverage package, private bookmakers, fashion parade and a lounge area and outdoor patio means there is something to suit everyone on this action packed day.

This annual event is truly second to none on the trackswith theming provided by Brisbane Event Management. To book and enquire about prices, contact them via their website.

With all these options there's no need to be stuck with nothing to do on Cup Day!

My understanding is that the races are being held at Doomben this year not Eagle farm. I'd say you'd be very lonely if you went the the Marquee Melbourne Cup at Eagle Farm!!!!
