Chocolate tours are absolutely great. The Melbourne chocolate walking tours are worth their weight in gold; yet in many cases they come with a price tag that is out of reach for many people.

You can always create your own, or go with the one I am recommending to you. This chocolate walking tour is in your control; you can do it any day during the week, and if you can resist the temptation, you get to view some delicious chocolates. These chocolate items are also quite tasty. My only vice.

This chocolate experience in the city begins at Lindt Chocolat Cafe on Collins Street, apparently one of Lindt's flagship cafe concept stores here in Melbourne. I personally love their milk iced and hot chocolates. This Swiss delicacy is a simple indulgence, and can also be purchased at your nearby supermarket for a cheaper price. This establishment also runs chocolate appreciation nights. Their dark chocolate varieties are full on, so I just opt for the milk chocolate varieties instead. Lindt has been the master of Swiss chocolate since 1845 after all. Their hot chocolate servings almost equates to two full sized hot chocolate drinks. Nice one.

Cross the road and turn left towards the Block Arcade and you will find Haigh's Chocolates. Their milk chocolate frogs are particularly addictive. It is easy to salivate in such opulence. A master of chocolate since 1915. Factory tours are available if you ever find yourself in Adelaide.

For the most amazing looking (and tasting) chocolate cakes in the city, Laurent Patisserie (The Causeway) is worth a pit stop for a coffee and cake as you are heading towards Bourke Street Mall. From what appears to be too good to eat at first, these cakes are eaten in no time. So far the Melbourne vibe is of a European nature.

Meanwhile, continue to find yourself in Little Collins Street and head inside the Royal Arcade. Here you will find a couple of chocolate gems. A visit to The Chokolait Hub is the fabric of Melbourne. This establishment is always quite busy. Their chocolate drinks are flavoursome, and they pave the way for an amazing chocolate drinking experience in particular. Their little chocolate displays are terrific. Despite being fairly small size wise, there are ample tables in which to eat in and enjoy, of course, chocolate, and more chocolate. Definitely one of Melbourne's best hot chocolates can be found at this establishment.

Keep walking through the Royal Arcade as you are heading out towards Bourke Street Mall and you will find Koko Black . Novels such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and films such as Chocolat has inspired the man behind Koko Black to set up a chocolate establishment in 2001, and the rest is history. The upstairs seating area is rather elegant. Great chocolate treats to take away. Koko Black is currently celebrating the winter evenings of chocolate program with dessert degustation nights.

So far, so fun. The tour isn't over yet. Find yourself at Bourke Street Mall and keep walking until you find David Jones on your right hand side. Head down the escalators to the Food Hall Area, and chocolate is right on your left hand side. It is so easy to pick and choose between those little bites. Otherwise this entire area is devoted to all things chocolate. Head back up the escalators, and turn right towards Swanston Street.

Keep walking along Swanston Street towards Carlton, and on the corner of Swanston and Lonsdale Streets you will find the QV Centre. Time to check out Max Brenner . It is nice once in a while to buy a small pot of chocolate, dip one of your fingers into it and lick it. Otherwise their chocolate dipped strawberries are magnificent. Have also tried their body bath a while ago, not bad going. Head towards Melbourne Central and your last stop on this chocolate tour is Chocolateria San Churro . Their bite sized chocolate bits are to die for. Just like Max Brenner they make a mean chocolate fondue. What would Melbourne (let alone the whole world) be like without chocolate? Delicious.
