On a Sunday, I took my grand daughters, aged 8 and 4 to Melbourne by train from the Northern suburbs.

For children of this age, the train journey itself is a joy, further enhanced by the opportunity to use our Myki passes. After walking along the Yarra. we called in at Artplay to inspect the craft display and spent an hour at the Adventure Playground behind it.

The need for a toilet drove us back to Federation Square (the toilet near the playground were disgusting). At Federation Square, we were entertained by a busker much to the children's delight, and we donated $5.00

We lunched at Feddish , one of a number of delightful and quite reasonable restaurants in the vicinity. At the girl's request, lunch consisted of toasted Turkish bread and dips and coffee for Granddad. However there are picnic tables available for those who prefer.

After lunch we found that The Candlelight Production Company was putting on a craft workshop in the Atrium. I make it a practice never to stand between my girls and a bottle of glue or a piece of ribbon, so there was another hour gone. After this, it was that well known ice-cream time, before wending our way back to No 1 Platform for the ride home.

It is not hard to have a great day in our city at a very reasonable price.
