Great food, drinks & entertainment
Melbourne Central Lion Hotel
Melbourne Central Lion Hotel

Melbourne has slowly been gaining a reputation for food innovation and fusions over the last decade or so. You might be thinking, is there really a food revolution happening in the CBD? The answer is yes. Melbourne has always been the go to spot for a good meal, just think, Lygon Street. I have been fortunate enough to have dined in some of Melbourne's best-kept secrets for several years and have decided to let you in on one of the places I have discovered. For those of you searching for a culinary experience your stomach will thank you for later, than explore no further!

Today's place is Melbourne Central Lion Hotel. It is modelled after an old English-style pub. The venue opened in 2005 and they have been trading for 9 years in the same location, nestled amid the hustle and bustle of busy Melbourne Central. You can find them on Level 3. The pub is all about great service, friendly staff and excellent entertainment. They have several plasma screens broadcasting multiple sporting events. If sports isn't your cup of tea, no worries. They have some of the best cover bands in Melbourne playing there several nights a week, which allows them to cater to a wide array of people.

It goes for the classic approach, for sure. Their traditional décor of an old English pub allows the exquisiteness of the food to really shine through, though food is not the only thing on the menu. They also offer many draught beers and mixed drinks. Melbourne Central Lion Hotel is a cozy spot housing plenty of tables with a centralised bar, unless you prefer to sit and watch passersby in their "outdoor" area while you enjoy your meal or drink. The restaurant plays an assortment of music that highlights its comfy atmosphere full of satisfied patrons.

I have dined here for lunch and dinner, as well as, enjoyed a drink or two at the bar while watching one of their many cover bands on the diminutive stage. The atmosphere here is always good and Melbourne Central Lion Hotel really stands out amongst the backdrop because of their outside dining area. There is always something on one of their plasma TV's to entertain you, if people-watching isn't your thing. The bar staff are always friendly and eager to answer any question you may have too.

One of my favorite dishes is their nachos. Bring your appetite for this extra large dish because you will need one! It is packed with cuts of chicken or beef, perfectly cooked and never dry. The dish is bursting with tomatoes, peppers, sauce, cheese and much more. It is truly delicious. You can easily share one with your partner or several of your best mates.

Nachos appetizer anyone?

Melbourne Central Lion Hotel changes their menu every 6 months or so to take advantage of seasonal availability of foods and allows their top notch chiefs to be inspired and utilise their creativity yielding spectacular results. You will always find Melbourne Central Lion Hotel's signature dishes: Parma, steaks, burgers and ribs on their menu. It is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the stomach. Make sure you leave some room for their delectable desserts. They are worth a try!

Though I would love to be selfish and keep Melbourne Central Lion Hotel all to myself, I would feel remiss if I did not share the wonders of this old-style English pub with you. This is one place that is too good to stay tucked away for long. Visit them today for a truly great meal before they become the hottest place in town.
