Melbourne by Balloon

Published April 30th 2010
You may have lived in Melbourne all your life, you may have explored every one of its nooks and crannies, but you haven't truly discovered our wonderful city until you've seen it from above.

Floating along at about 1500 feet, accompanied by anywhere from two to 20 passengers, is a peaceful yet thrilling feeling. The streets and buildings appear in wonderful clarity, providing many opportunities for photos that you'll love sharing with your friends. Surprisingly, it's no colder in the air. Not only do the burners provide warmth, but because the basket drifts with the wind, wind chill is eliminated.

After rendezvousing anywhere from 30-60 minutes before takeoff, your flight will depart at sunrise, when conditions are at their calmest. You'll be aloft for about an hour, before returning to earth for a celebratory champagne breakfast. All up, your ballooning adventure will take four or five hours.

Due to the vagaries of the weather, flight times and routes are variable. Also, the elements can sometimes lead to cancellations.
