Over the last few years In Australia and internationally there has been explosive growth in the area of neuroscience. Click here to discover the top 5 neuroscience breakthroughs of 2013. Here in Melbourne we have our own centre for ground-breaking Neuroscience research, The University of Melbourne.On Thursday 16 October, the annual will draw on this research activity from Melbourne University. Proudly presented by The Melbourne Neuroscience Institute, University of Melbourne and the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, the event's scientific program includes topics on current neuroscience focused research in Australia and internationally.

Hear from remarkable leaders in the profession, that have travelled from Edinburgh and the U.S to join leading Melbourne professors to speak at the event. Kicking off at 9.00am, there will be eight topics on the day including Understanding Brain Changes in Schizophrenia: Impact of Stress, Drugs and Inflammation on the Developing Brain and Synapse Complexity.Personally the topic of 'Generating a nervous system in the gut during development and disease' presented by Professor Heather Young from the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, University of Melbourne sparks my interest.The event is to be held in the spectacular new Melbourne Brain Centre, home to Australia's largest brain research collaboration.
Following the close of the program at 4.05pm, those who attended the Symposium are also invited to an informal dinner on level 5 of The Melbourne Brain Centre.
