I'm a freelance writer, living in Melbourne. I enjoy uncovering hidden in plain sight gems.

Now that is the million dollar question.

For starters, everyone's taste is slightly different and if you are talking about a "healthy" burger, this ditty isn't for you! Burgers are back and a big topic of conversation in the City of Melbourne. Especially with the myriad of choices now available.

When I want a burger there are three essential things I look for.
These include:

  • Value for money

  • Great Bacon

  • Succulent Meat

And even better if I can have the burger without the bun sometimes (not always). If I'm going to have it without the bun, it has to be as good or better than the burger with the bun.

8bit Burgers are by far my favourite. Their menu is short and the burgers are consistent. It's no wonder that their Swanston Street Store is always busy. This place has been a new discovery for me, however the as the story goes, that they have been making stellar burgers in Footscray for years.

Andrew's Burgers are an old time favourite for me. I used to live in Albert Park and my Andrew's Burger obsession started many years ago post swimming and gym-ing at MSAC Apparently, a lot of famous people have eaten there over the years, but that's never been my reason to indulge in their uber awesome burgers. Their potato cakes are exactly as they should be and the burgers taste just as scrumptious as they always did. It's good to know too that their CBD store near Queen Vic Market keeps the exact same quality as their original Albert Park shop.

I recently tried the Charlie & Co burger and I'm pleased to say it was very delicious. So I'll make their signature burger my third choice.

Those are my top three. And despite trying some of the new 'cheffy' ones or the healthy ones (think Burger Project & Grill'd) my legs just keep taking me back to 8bit and Andrew's.
