Dear Burger Lovers,

It has been over a year in the making but I have spent the last year travelling to as many burger specialists in Melbourne as I could to compile a list of the ultimate burger makers. I visited 25 burger purveyors and compiled a list looking at 3 things:

1. The quality of the "standard" burger (ie the one that was as close to simply a meat patty, bun and sauce as possible).

2. The price of the burger. For me cheap was less than $10, average was up to $15 and expensive was over that (with one being very expensive!).

3. And finally, the quality to price ratio which for me is the most important thing. I am happy to pay $30 for a burger, just make sure it is worth that.

You can see the list below with the quality, price and ratio presented. I also give the location of each. Note these are my own opinions and I know they do vary from my friends. There is one left of the list which I have heard is very good and that is Cafe51 in South Melbourne but worry not, I will get there!!

I have ranked them in order of the quality to price ratio.

You wouldn't know a burger if you tried, stick to Create your Own or Hungry Jacks.
