This is where Middle Park beach is in vogue. It is not easy to find a beautiful beachside locale in inner Melbourne. Your next best bet would be in Mentone along the outer suburbs along the bay, and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the beach side establishment I went to there. However, Sandbar Beach Cafe at Middle Park beach is just terrific. It reminds me of Signature Cafe in Brighton Le Sands in Sydney.
Endeavour to sit down right near the windows, and it is easy to feel like the world is your Oyster with the beach right in front of you, except for the prices, although they are fairly in line with the area. Great to come here anytime on the weekend (except when it is raining) and go for any of their food items. The scales should balance out between food and drinks one day. The menu is overpowered with drinks, and on a busy day expect a longer wait; and yes for drinks in particular. Yet as they say in real estate: location, location, location; Sandbar is awesome.
What do you think? Do you know of (or have been to) any great beach side cafes in Melbourne? Let us know. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Sandbar is in a perfect spot but I've been put off by the long waits for brekkie on weekends. My own fault, if I got out of bed earlier I would beat the crowds! Nshry is a more recent addition further up the beach at Albert Park - haven't tried it yet, but it seems popular as well.
I would be careful of the cafe on Mentone beach (next to life saving club), prices of their ice creams and possibly other menu items are not disclosed and we ended up paying a lot more than we were led to believe. When we raised it with the person who served us and the manager they were rude and abusive, I won't be rushing back there.
