A visit to Melba's Chocolates and Confectionery is a wonder to behold at any time, however a visit to Melba's at Easter is truly magical and brings memories of my childhood when Easter was not about selecting from clinically arranged racks in supermarkets, but from wonderful bright and colourful displays in the local corner store.

Melba's has a long tradition of opening on holidays, and this Easter is no different - they will be open every day over the long weekend ensuring lots of fun and entertainment.

Established by Graeme and Joy Foristal in 1981, Melba's was originally located in a small wash-house behind their Adelaide Restaurant, before relocating to the garage of their home. As Melba's grew and the garage became too small to accommodate production, they eventually relocated to the historic Woodside Farmers Union Factory.

The amazing smell of warm chocolate reminiscent of the smell of hot chocolate being made on a cold winter's day with which you are greeted as you enter Melba's never gets boring. Go through the charming old-fashioned turnstile and you are greeted with rows upon rows of wonderful sweet goodness.

Melba's will be open and sharing their Easter celebrations from 9 am to 4.30 pm each day of the Easter weekend from Friday 30 March to Monday 2 April 2018. Entry to the factory is free.

This year, you will be able to come along and enjoy lunch on the lawns with Mahalia Coffee, specialty hot chocolate, milkshakes, ice cream, chocolates and lollies available for purchase.

Local artist Silvio Apponyi will be carving a massive 10kg block of chocolate live on Good Friday from 9 am to 4.30 pm. Reminiscent of 2017's 10kg chocolate Bilby, Silvio will once again be creating another masterpiece and you get to come along to see what will emerge. For a chance to win Silvio's masterpiece, hop onto the Melba's website and choose which animal you think Silvio should carve. Please, ensure you read the terms and conditions before entering.

There will be free face painting across the whole weekend and kids can enter the colouring-in competition for a chance to win one of three Giant Milk Chocolate Rabbits. Children are encouraged to complete their entry at the factory and submit to staff to ensure all entries are collected.

Maxine's Baked Potatoes will be on the grounds with a large variety of food from their famous spuds to delicious nachos and the cafe will be open serving up a whole raft of deliciousness, including gluten-free options.

Melba's amazing range of Easter chocolate goodies come in white, milk and dark chocolate along with a variety of confectionary. Every day you can choose from an incredible range of chocolate from animal shapes to chocolate blocks, cherrychocs and don't forget the inch liquorice. Who can forget their childhood favourites including traffic lights and gobstoppers!

There is a range of no added sugar chocolate and speciality bags for when you just can't make up your mind. They have a good variety of gift bags packed ready to go for when you can't make up your mind what to choose. At Easter though, the range expands to include bunnies and bilbies, chocolate hens and freckled eggs, little eggs and big eggs, and Easter baskets for those who just can't choose. Make sure you have plenty of time, there is so much to see you will find it difficult to make a choice.

The best part (besides the chocolate, of course) of visiting Melba's, is the six rooms dedicated to production and available for you to see just how these little bundles of deliciousness are made. The chocolate, depositing, packing, panning and toffee rooms and cooling tunnel are equipped with 1940's era chocolate and confectionery making equipment. While no guarantees can be made as to which product is being made at the time of your visit, staff will always be happy to discuss the process with you. Be aware though that these rooms are often not operational on weekends outside of the lead up to holidays. At the time of our visit. all rooms were operational and we were able to spend time with the staff discussing the different processes and watch what they were doing.

Melba's is located at 22 Henry Street Woodside and is open 7 days a week year-round, from 9 am to 4.30 pm, including public holidays, except Christmas and Boxing Days.

If you simply cannot make it Melba's to get your Easter goodies, orders can be placed online with pre-Easter delivery Australia-wide for orders placed before Thursday 22 March 2018.

Melba's products are also available at a range of stockists around South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
