On a busy Saturday night, we entered the inviting alfresco surrounds of Melaleuca in Port Douglas without a booking. Thankfully, our charming Scottish waiter magically arranged the reservation and set us a place impressively under a fairy-lit tree.

The magic continued with the mouth-watering menu and wine list.

We opted for a crisp white wine to complement the seafood dishes selected. Tempura Bug Tail entree and Pan Seared Daintree Barramundi to reflect our seaside location, although there were many meat dishes to suit a beefier palate along with gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Remember to leave room for dessert as the Tropical Selections befit the FNQ setting and the Textures of Chocolate is truly inspired.

Check out the menu to tempt your taste buds.

The restaurant proudly announces the many culinary awards it has won in recent years, with Head Chef Adam Ion, along with his wife Namhee, working to showcase local, fresh produce.

However, it is not just the food which inspires but also the setting, with an open-aired paved courtyard, leafy trees, tropical greenery, and comfortable cane seating. There is a lovely ambience around Melaleuca's, which was reflected in the other diners. A lovely buzz of celebration, relaxed holidaymakers and romantic candlelit couples. It is time to feel the buzz and join the locals at this new hot spot.

Melaleuca Port Douglas is an award-winning modern Australian restaurant serving lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner. It is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
