The Melaleuca Ceramic and Arts Studio are having a Maneki Neko Festival on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September 2015 from 11am to 3pm. This event will take place at 31 Melaleuca Drive, Clarinda. Entry is by gold coin donation.

The Maneki Neko is literally a 'beckoning cat'; a common Japanese/asian figurine which is considered a lucky charm or talisman and believed to bring good luck to the owner.

Situated in a community complex, the Melaleuca Ceramic and Arts Studio group has been in existence for over 40 years. With varying experience and ages of the members, you're bound to find a massive variety of interpretations at the studio. If you're interested, talk to them about membership.

There'll be an exhibition and sale of a variety of ceramic felines. There's face painting for the young and young at heart, interactive sessions, a Cat Cafe with suitable cat theme, some Okinawa Sanshin Music and more. The President of the Tasmanian Potters Association, Kim Foal will also be in attendance.

Sounds like fun. I've seen these cat talismans in so many restaurants but never before in ceramics.
