Sometimes you feel like fine dining. High quality, well prepared food in a lovely atmosphere and on those occasions (when I can find a babysitter) I don't mind paying a little more and waiting a little longer. Other times you just want affordable, fast, hot, tasty and plentiful. Mekong Chinese is definitely the latter.
Yes, it's a food court Chinese, and I know this usually means the food is greasy, dry, limp or in some improbable cases all three. You are also spoilt for choice if you are shopping at the Strathpine Shopping centre as there are two good Sushi places, a good Indian, a café and the usual McDonalds etc. so you certainly don't have to settle for this option. Perhaps it is partly because of the competition, and definitely a large deal of credit goes to the high turnover of the food, but this self serve Chinese is one of the best I know. For $12.50 you get a respectable sized large plate, or you can get considerably less for just a little less money at $10.50 or small for $8.50.
I usually go for a mix of just about everything on the noodles rather than the rice. The rice is ok but is the only element that I do find a bit dry here, so tend to avoid it in favour of the much better noodles. I'll admit I generally have this just for myself, but it is also a great meal to share, either with two or in some cases the whole family if we all just want a quick bite.
