A special trail through the Gardens

This winter, come and embark on an adventure trail at Australian National Botanic Gardens filled with nature, science, art, culture and history!

An Australian first, MEGAfauna: once there were giants! is an immersive family-friendly attraction that brings you face to face with Australia's prehistoric past!

As you make your way through the MEGAfauna trail, you will discover giant animals that went extinct thousands of years ago. Look out for wombat-like creatures the size of hippos, flightless birds that weighed twice as much as modern emus, a turtle with a horned head and spiked tail, and a giant monitor lizard just to name a few.

This is a special opportunity to step back in time and learn about the last ice age and gain an understanding of how plants and animals co-existed thousands of years ago.

MEGAfauna is open from 26 June - 25 July 2021. Entry is FREE.

Pick up a map from the Visitor Centre. The trail is wheelchair and pram accessible.
