Make this Christmas Day one to remember
Meetup brings people together in thousands of cities to do more of what they want to do in life.
It is organised around one simple idea: when we get together and do the things that matter to us, we're at our best. And that's what Meetup does. It brings people together to do, explore, teach and learn the things that help them come alive.
For example, I belong to an over 50's Meetup group who meet and go out for dinner or lunch regularly. You get to meet a lot of people this way, some similar to you and others vastly different, however, I find most of them interesting and I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life.
At Meetups, people welcome each other. They talk, help, mentor, and support each other – all in pursuit of moving their lives forward.
One person said "I Meetup so I can meet new and interesting people in this sometimes cold and lonely city", so whether this is you, or you just want a larger and more varied circle of friends, Meetup is a great place to join.
And there is no charge associated with any of this apart from what it costs to say, go out for a meal!
Each year, one of the groups has a Christmas lunch which is always great fun, and the people very welcoming - this group is LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE.
Bring a plate of food to share
Whether you are single, have a family, are a couple or whatever your situation is, you will be more than welcome to join others at this Christmas lunch.
Make new friends - chat with old ones!
Don't forget to bring your bathers and canoes! Join the Meetup "family" and feel welcome on Christmas Day.
Matilda Bay has been an awesome venue for the last four years, with its tall shady trees, lovely cool swimming in the River, and it is sheltered from the usual Christmas Day wind - or the Freo doctor as we know it. There are beautiful estuary views, cool clear water that you can swim in as long as you stay between jetties.
Large shady trees by the water
There will be a fabulous feast and everybody contributes a dish and you can eat til you drop, just like at home!
Laze around and just eat and enjoy
BYO chairs, extra table if you have one, drinks, plate of food to share, food insect covering, swimming gear, kayaks, picnic blanket, music, and lots of laughs.
Children and well behaved "dawgs" are also very welcome.
If your dog is well behaved, bring him/her also!
Last year, it was not crowded in this area, but you have to be creative with your parking - e.g. under a bush on the opposite side of the road! It will be held near the tearooms (south side) and between the jetties.
There will be a huge Meetup sign, and green balloons, so look out for these when you arrive, so that you sit with the right party of people!
You are welcome to come for part or all of the day! Invite your friends, share on social media, and please RSVP via Meetup.
Being Meetup, Christmas Day is a fabulous mixture of people, a mini United Nations, as some people are visiting Perth and have no family here.

Meetup actually did a nationality survey last year and this has some interesting results even though some may have been missed due to people coming and going.
This year (2017) there will also be a category for those of us who are "planetary citizens brought up/living in multiple countries"!
Last year's list consists of people from:
22 different countries
14 born in WA
7 from Melbourne
1 from Adelaide
Plus dogs Shacarne Golden Retriever
Dexter Black Labrador!
Look for the green balloons
