People have been meeting under the Flinders Street Clocks since it opened. It has become one of our own Melburnian traditions. If you're coming in by train, then meeting up at the train station is a very easy option that provides shelter, security (there are always rail staff around fulfilling various duties) and it's very central and easy to get to. The phrase,"I'll meet you under the clocks" is synonymous with meeting under the Flinders St Clocks - which is understood across the generations.
In summer meeting under the clocks of Flinders Street Station is great but in winter it's often cold and miserable on those steps. This weekend it was suggested by a girlfriend that we meet under the Clock at Melbourne Central the floor above Melbourne Central Station.
Melbourne Central has its very own clock, a fob watch clock, that plays Waltzing Matilda on the hour. As the music plays the bottom section of the clock lowers revealing two small boys playing their instruments, surrounded by birds. The whole display has an almost magical feel about it.

So next time you have to meet someone in the city, why not meet under the Melbourne Central Clock, it's dry protected from the weather and there's even entertainment provided by the clock or there's also a large silent screen TV to watch while you wait and you can even find a place to sit if you need. It's just opposite the Shot Tower, so you can't miss it.
