The longest running poetry reading group in the southern hemisphere, Friendly Street Poets will have David Adès, as Special guest poet at the next meeting at SA Writers' Centre Atrium on Tuesday 2 July at 6.00 pm for 7.00 pm start.

David Adès is an Australian poet living in Pittsburgh. His book Mapping the World was published by Wakefield Press and launched by Mike Ladd at Writers' Week at the Adelaide Festival of Art in 2008. In 2009, this collection of poetry was commended for the Fellowship of Australian Writers Ann Elder Award.

David joined Friendly Street Poets in 1979. He attended meetings for a few years before building enough courage to read his own work. He has since become a Friendly Street regular. His first published poem appeared in 1986 in the No. 12 Friendly Street Poetry Reader.

His poems have appeared in many subsequent Friendly Street Readers and in a variety of Australian literary magazines, and have also been broadcast on radio. He has read his work at many venues around South Australia and also in Austin, Texas. Together with Loana Petrescu, he co-edited the Friendly Street Poetry Reader 26. His poetry has been published in many Australian poetry journals and magazines.

It doesn't matter if you write poems or you just enjoy listening to poetry performances, you will receive a warm friendly welcome at Friendly monthly meetings where poets stand-up and read their poems. Special guest poets are invited to read.

Admission fee: $6 and $5 concession.
Wine and juice is included.
