Meet the Orchestra is a performance event with a difference. Children are encouraged to join in and stomp their feet to the beat of the timpani drum, clap their hands to the big brass tubas and sway to the music of the delicate flutes; or they could wiggle along to the clarinet. It's definitely a fun way to introduce young children and families to orchestral music.
This event will be held at the Leichhardt Town Hall, 107 Norton St, Leichhardt on Sunday 19 August 2018. Timeframes for the sessions are 9.30am to10.15am; 10.30am to 11.15am & 11.30am to 12.15pm on the day. Tickets are $25 for adults and concession and children 2 and over are $15. Performed by the SYO's (Sydney Youth Orchestras) Peter Seymour Orchestra, it's a very relaxed and informal concert. Designed to be interactive, informative and ultimately, lots of fun, the conductor and the musicians will help guide the children through the different wind instruments and their individual sounds.
The SYO is one to keep in mind if any young person in the family has leanings towards being a musician. They are the training ground for Australia's future professional musicians and seek applications annually for all strings, wind, brass and percussion musicians aged up to 25 years AMEB AMusA minimum standard or equivalent.
