What more could a book lover ask for?
That Boy, Jack by Janeen Brian
If you could meet and listen to a famous children's author read from her latest book, hear some beautiful Celtic singing and inspirational music, followed with Cornish Tea and refreshments, you'd want to check out this literary event, wouldn't you?
Janeen Brian, local award winning children's author.
Janeen Brian is the author of picture books, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, short fiction and novels for young people and the education market. She has written over 100 stories, plays and articles for Australian and American children's magazines, three scripts for Patch Theatre and 11 scripts for the popular children's TV program Here's Humphrey.
That Boy, Jack is the story of Jack and Gilbert, two best friends who made a promise when they were younger to work in the copper mines, just like their fathers, as is the custom of Cornish immigrants. Now at age twelve, Gilbert is compelled to leave school and earn a wage. Jack fears working underground. He wants to keep his pact, but struggles with his fear, as deep down in his heart he wants to seek another path. Will Jack have the courage to follow his heart, or will he keep his promise to Gilbert?
Janeen Brian & Rosanne Hawke.
That Boy, Jack will be officially launched by award winning author of Cornwall Rosanne Hawke . Rosanne is also a teacher, writing workshop facilitator, is known as a story teller for children, and for fun plays keyboard in the group Celtic Daughters with Dearne Prior, who plays violin, and Liz Fahlbusch, who plays recorder . The songbird of this group is Annaliese Nietschke.
The Celtic Daughters.
As part of the launch there will be live entertainment with Celtic singing and inspirational music performed by the Celtic Daughters and members of the Adelaide Cornish Choir.
This is a wonderful opportunity for family members, especially children to meet Janeen, who will be reading and signing copies of That Boy, Jack.
There will be a Cornish afternoon tea, along with other refreshments.
