If you are either into snorkelling, scuba diving or fishing and you have trouble identifying the fish species you see or catch, then the Australian Fishing Guide by Frank Prokop is the book that you need.

Dymocks Joondalup & the City of Joondalup are proud to present an author event with fishing guru Frank Prokop on Tuesday the 28th of February at the Woodvale Library 5 Trappers Drive, Woodvale, between the hours of 6pm to 7.30pm.

Through my involvement of writing for the fishing industry over the years, I have meet Frank a couple of times at tackle shows and have found that he has a wealth of knowledge on all things fishing.

Frank has written or been involved with writing over 15 books over the years and his book "Australian Fishing Guide" has been reprinted three times and has sold over 100,000 copies.

Frank has also written 3 books on lures; Freshwater Fishing Lures and How to use them (1991), Lures in Depth (1995) and the Lure Encyclopaedia (2004). All in all, there were 1965 lures tested to give anglers an insight into how these lures worked.

These 3 books are now out of press and are becoming a collector's item. I am pleased to say that I have all 3 books which I still refer to today. So, if you are an avid lure angler, you should keep your eyes out for one.

Frank Prokop is not just and angler, writer and photographer. He is currently a Visiting Research Associate at the Curtin University - Bentley Campus where he is undertaking teaching and research activities. Working on optimising resource allocations based upon community returns from fish resources, improving total mortality estimates, community stewardship and citizen science projects, socio-economic and activity decision modelling, and improved engagement of the community in research planning and extension.

Frank has also worked as an Executive Director for the Health Consumers' Council, Executive Director of Recfishwest, twice Chairman of Recfish Australia, board member of Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, Member National Oceans Advisory Group, inaugural winner Mal Ramsay Award for Lifetime Achievement to benefit recreational fishing, winner Australian Sports Medal, Director of the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, Assistant Program Manager of the Department of Fisheries Western Australia and the Recreational Fisheries Manager of the NSW Fisheries. Just to name a few.

Frank Prokop has been writing about fishing for three decades. He has been longtime technical editor of Freshwater Fishing and Tackle Rat columnist for Australian Fishing Network.

This hour and a half event is for all snorkelling, scuba diving or fishing enthusiasts and for those who would like to discover why fishing is so good for your health and wellbeing, and a great family activity to boot.

Copies of some of Frank's books will be available for purchase and signing on the night.

Due to the popularity of this event, you will need to register that you are going to attend as the places are starting to fill up.

The event will be followed by refreshments and there is a $4 entry cost that has to be paid on entry.
