Big kitty wants to play
There are very few people in the world who have gotten close enough to pat a big cat and then lived to tell the tale, but in Canberra there is a very special opportunity to do exactly that at the National Zoo and Aquarium.

The Zookeepers brimmed with love and care for their charges, and it was clear the cheetahs love the attention - even from people they'd never seen before. I was thrilled and honoured when one of the cheetahs licked my hand and then gently and playfully took my hand in its mouth.

I still feel incredibly privileged to have met two beautiful big cats, and heard them purr as I patted them. The zookeepers took plenty of great photos and videos for me, and I could not have asked for a better or more personal experience.

You'll notice she isn't de-clawed!

At this time children are not allowed within sight of the enclosure, as the cheetahs see smaller people as a likely meal and their behaviour becomes dangerous.

The price includes zoo entry, so it's a great idea to spend a whole day marvelling at a range of wonderful animals. You can also see tigers, lions, snow leopards, and cougars.
