are my favourite Brisbane market. They are the largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artisan and cultural markets in Australia. These impressive markets are a free two-day event on Friday and Saturday. They're held in the heart of Brisbane City at Brisbane Square, Reddacliff Place, adjacent to the Casino and Library buildings. It is a wonderful opportunity to buy authentic Indigenous products straight from the talented designers and artists.



Meeanjin is an Aboriginal word for the land on which Brisbane stands. The are much more than mere markets - they are really a two-day festival. They are a legacy of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and have continued in Brisbane as an event not to be missed.



The markets have a diverse range of vendors. Explore the market stalls for hand made art, craft and design - perfect for gifts such birthday pressies (or a little something for yourself). I have attended these markets a few times and love them. My favourite stallholders (and there are many) include Kadu Designa Earrings and Accessories (from whom I have bought several pairs of stunning red, black and yellow earrings). My absolute favourite designer is Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, a Straddie Island artist. This impressive woman designed the official medals for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games - so make sure you check out her textiles, ceramics, prints, woven art and wall hangings.



Some of the other regular stallholders include Culture Weave, Bomsy, Dark & Distrubing, Muralappi Arts, CAIA Griffith Uni, Yangga Artwork, Kakadu Tiny Tots, Sonia Pallett, and Nunkeri. Who are your favourites?

Don't forget to indulge in some native Australian food and beverages, or bush tucker. There will be several food trucks and stalls. I can highly recommend both the First Food Co, bush food specialists, owned by Karen, who is the friendly and knowledgeable head of this indigenous catering company; and Game Enough , for fresh and unusual food to tempt you. Are you game enough to try camel curry or crocodile meatballs?



You will be entertained by live performers. You are sure to enjoy a showcase of great dancing, singing and performances by high quality. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. There is also going to be FREE workshops and activities for adults and children. There'll be plenty for the whole family to enjoy and kids are well catered for. Blackcard Cultural Tours is another company featured. I have joined them on a cultural tour to learn more about the indigenous history and culture of the area. Fascinating. Don't miss it.
