This lane is only 500 metres in length but with the return walk and a diversion into a park, it's a nice walk, but not on a hot day. It runs between Ross Pincott Drive and Old Kent Road.
For such a short street, it has a great diversity of floral attractions. Roses were the dominant species. An evergreen rose and a Hungarian rose were two that stood out. There were several bush roses and bright red cinnamon rose.
Many individual blooms were photographed. Several gardens were entirely populated with roses. An unusual front fence turned out to be a side fence on a corner block.
Several flowering gums were very obvious, both as street trees and garden residents.
Some rarer flowers seen were a blue potato bush, a bower plant, golden dewdrop and a group of fountain grass.
Only two birds allowed themselves to be photographed. A magpie and a crimson rosella caught flying through a tree.
Many oleanders bushes and trees were in splendid bloom with their bright colours.
Part way, along Meadowlark Lane, a narrow path leads into Shadowplay Reserve, whose main entrance is in Shadowplay Road. It is a large grassy expanse with a small playground, a couple of mature trees and an elevated look across the Mooroolbark College playing fields.
An African daisy was almost the only daisy seen. Several geraniums were seen. They are a common flower but so many different species make them appealing.
Some plants and flowers are given strange names. One was several stalks of bear's breeches.
The only garden ornaments of interest were a cute statue and a birdbath.
The only walker seen was a lady returning home with her shopping.
Almost every street walked seems to have a pending hard rubbish collection, with some of the items interesting. The folk in Meadowlark Lane must have given up exercise with the number of bicycles awaiting their fate as was a treadmill.
When gardens become overgrown some unusual plants pop up. One garden was host to a blackberry plant, probably seeded by a passing bird.
Other flowers seen were many white agapanthus, several iris, a pair of young grevilleas and several convolvulus plants.
If just looking at flowers is your go, go to Meadowlark Lane.
