A great multicultural sports event for the whole family
Global Games is about Queenslanders, both local and from all over the world, coming together to play sport and games that many of us share. It will involve sports such as soccer (or football as it is called by people from most other countries), cricket, volleyball and table tennis. There will also be an Indian Kabaddi martial arts competition and for the cerebrally inclined, a chess competition.
The event will be held on Saturday May 21 and Sunday May 22 at the Gregory Terrace Playing Fields in Tennyson. Everyone is welcome to join and registrations are open now. In particular, if you have a football team, register before May 2nd.
The big highlight of the event is the soccer/football final which will be held at 2 pm Sunday May 22nd. The winning team will walk away with $500 in prize money while the runners up will win $250.
The Multicultural Development Association or MDA has the goal of supporting new migrants and refugees to Australia, helping establish multicultural communities in Queensland, and encouraging cultural diversity. MDA is an independent organisation and receives funding from many government sources.
This event has been spun off from MDA's annual WelcomeFest and MDA is now holding this community weekend as a separate event. Remember everyone is welcome to watch and there are plenty of opportunities for the whole community to participate.
