Located in the idyllic Southern Highlands, McVitty Grove is the official home of Tractorless Vineyard, the first carbon neutral wine in the Southern Highlands, and also the home of Cutaway Hill Wines and D Cider premium ciders.
Open to the public Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm, this stunning vineyard is perfect for family day trips and romantic getaways.
Upon arrival, you'll be treated to a picturesque landscape, dotted with Tractorless Vineyard's hardworking Hampshire Downs sheep.
You can begin your McVitty Grove experience by heading to the Cellar Door, where friendly staff will introduce you to a premium range of wines and ciders. One of the highlights is Tractorless Vineyard's award-winning wines created by Jeff Aston, Mark Bourne and Ian MacDonald, three local winemakers with a passion for sustainable farming.
Tractorless Vineyards strives to limit its environmental impact at every stage of the grape growing and winemaking process. The name Tractorless Vineyards refers to the Hampshire Downs sheep in the vineyards, who assist during the growing season. Jeff Aston notes that these 'mowers' have "… eliminated the use of herbicide, reduced the need to mow vineyard rows and remove excess shoots from vines, [and] at the same time [add a] touch of natural fertiliser. Every time our woolly workers are in the vineyard we are saving 100 kilograms of carbon."
The wine range extends to Pinot Gris, Riesling and Cabernet Merlot. You can also sample the Cutaway Hill Wines range, which includes Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Merlot Pinot Noir, Sparkling Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir and the D Ciders collection, which includes apple, pear and honey varieties.
The Cafe and Restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner (check trading times). Why not make the most of your visit by enjoying one of the manager's delightful specials, or maybe a leisurely share plate. You can sit back and relax on the balcony or opt for the cosy and inviting dining room. A children's menu is also available, as well as gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options. You can view the full menu here.
Before heading home, take a stroll through the scenic location and pop by the Farmshop, where you can purchase some locally made gourmet produce.
If you're looking to escape the city and breathe the fresh country air, make note of McVitty Grove, it's a 90 minute drive from Sydney CBD and perfect for families, friends and couples.
