Earning high marks for sensory perception,
in Forest Grove, Oregon, delivers a unique experience at their hotel.
Whimsical art paired with comfortable beds, a Japanese soaking pool, and live entertainment keeps guests entertained for at least two days. We had the pleasure of a two-night stay at this unusual property.
McMenamins likes to keep the past in the present by converting historic buildings into modern lodgings, and they've done so throughout the Pacific Northwest. The Grand Lodge is a former Masonic and Eastern Star property.
Extensive research performed for each property and artists hired to create fantastic art throughout makes the McMenamins hotels entertainment centers. For example, faces adorn pipes from the attic to the basement. Individual paintings enhance the foundation floor's pillars and tell stories about people who have influenced the McMenamins through the years. Murals embellish headboards, hallways, utility boxes, and doors.
Legends persist at the Grand Lodge about the dancing Lavender Lady who greets late-night revelers and ghosts knocking in the walls. Even though I arose early to hunt for the Lavender Lady, she didn't grace me with her presence. And that knocking was only the radiators warming the rooms. However, I'm happy to pass along the tales to my readers.
When we checked in at the front desk, our hotelier encouraged us to explore the newly refreshed attic and look for the Secret Room. She even gave us a clue on how to find it. Otherwise, we would have missed it. I won't reveal the location here because you'll have to go on your own hunt for this stunning passageway.
