There are many free and fabulous things happening around the city this summer, but for those of you in the outer South East a trip into town can be time consuming and costly. Fear not, the folks at have got you covered.

Take a stroll through the 16 acres of landscaped gardens to view more than 70 weird and wonderous works. The larger than life creations by some of the biggest names in Australian sculptural art will wow you, your friends and your neighbours ('cos trust me, you will tell them about it).

Then head inside to the Gallery and Cafe, taking in the latest in local and international art, design and photography. These indoor exhibits change regularly and seeing as the food and wine selection at the cafe are so inviting, it is easy to make this a regular weekend destination.

There is a small gift shop where you can peruse and purchase crafty wares by local and national artisans. And if an education is what you're after, you may also like to take a look at the library collection to brush up on your knowledge of the local and international art scene or sit in on talks by local artists and curators.

This not-for-profit Melbourne institution is located in Langwarren and is the perfect day out for young and old. And for those of you who are partial to a good fundraiser, they are hosting a Twilight Jazz evening at Dame Elisabeth Murdoch's Cruden Farm on the 16th of February, where you can bring a picnic and kick up your heels, knowing that your hard earned $15 is going towards the upkeep of this iconic supporter of the arts.

Check out their website for what's on.
