In the heart of McLaren Vale stands a somewhat unexpected heritage-listed building.
McLaren Vale Institute Hall was constructed in 1932 as a World War I district memorial. It is built of stone and has rendered brick walls. Its facade includes an arched entrance porch. The memorial can be found in front of the building on the street boundary.
Since its construction, the institute hall has been a social point for the township. By the entrance, you'll find an intimate room known as the library. It is filled with books. Further inside is a large historical hall featuring immaculate wooden floorboards, a stage and a bar area. It opens out to a piazza with granite steps, a stage and a pavilion. A water feature recognises the Italian migrants who settled in the area. On the other side of the hall is a supper room with lino flooring and a commercial kitchen.
Today, the building continues to be used by the community for weddings, events, markets, functions, kids' birthday parties, fitness classes, meetings, etc. It is conveniently located at 155 Main Road in McLaren Vale. For hiring enquiries, head to
