Create your own Burgers
Currently the first and only McDonalds in South Australia to have the facility, the branch in Port Adelaide offers you a unique experience to create your own burger. This is done by using one of four touch screen panels located near the front of the restaurant. As you create your burger, you are able to monitor your progress on the left side of the screen. Only Angus beef patties are available now, but a staff member informed us there are plans to offer chicken as your main ingredient in the future.

Included in the price of $8.95 are one Angus beef patty and your choice of cheese, salad and sauce on a brioche bun, baker's bun or lettuce wrap for the health conscious. You are not required to have all of the ingredients on your burger; you are free to add as many or as little as you want and can leave out some of the ingredients if you so wish. For a bit of extra cost, you can also add bacon, egg, guacamole, tortilla strips, grilled mushrooms or grilled pineapple to your burger. You can even add extra beef patties if you are particularly hungry. You have the option to order your burger as a meal with drink and fries/garden salad.

Presentation is also unique; you are given a small disc which allows the staff to locate you within the restaurant and the burger is served in a manner similar to many burger joints. The Angus beef patties were juicy and perfectly cooked though the exact taste of the burger depends on your choice of fillings. Both buns complemented our choice of ingredients nicely, with the brioche bun having a softer texture compared to the baker's bun. To finish the meal, we ordered their $1 Waffle Cones choosing chocolate sauce for one and strawberry sauce for the other. The soft serve ice cream was light and fluffy and the sauces we picked complemented it perfectly.

If you do not have the confidence to create your own burger, McDonalds provides you with three pre-created burgers which you can then tweak to your taste. The regular menu is still available if you are not in the mood for creating your own burger. There is also a play area to keep the kids entertained. There are plans for other McDonald's outlets to provide the same service in the future, so look forward to possibly experience this in a store near you.

Your Comment
Definitely a different concept for McDonalds. Sounds cool. Are you allowed to create your burger without the actual burger patty?

It does sound all a bit hard for a place that has modelled itself on consistent product and limited variation

How about letting us do this with vegan patties?
