It was a chance drive by that led me to . is located in Newmarket, an inner north-west suburb of Brisbane and approximately 5 kilometres from the central business district. The park occupies a green space in a mostly residential and light industrial area. McCook is a flat, lawned area with a number of additional features:

Sheltered Seating and BBQs
A standout feature of the park is the picnicking space which has a colonial inspired, red-roofed, sheltered eating area with several benches and picnic tables. The shelter is surrounded by a small, well maintained garden and full mature trees which enclose it and provide welcome shade on a hot day. Barbeques rest beside the shelter just waiting to be fired up for a lunchtime feast.

Kids Play Equipment
The kids can be kept amused with a baby plus senior swings, climbing tower, and a stand on spinner, all covered by 2 overhead sails. A half basketball court is available for the older kids but remember that time limits apply and players are welcome to shoot hoops between 7am and 10pm.

Extensive grassy space to run and play[
The large grassed area is perfect for kicking a ball, swinging a cricket bat or simply running amok.

Newmarket Soccer Football Club
Adjoining the park is the Newmarket Soccer Football Club - a community club which was formed in 1949 and established by Australia Post workers on the south side of Brisbane. It was originally called the Australian Postal Institute. It prides itself on its rich tradition of providing the chance to have fun, build skills and fitness and enjoy all the benefits of working together as a soccer team. The club caters for junior boys and girls aged 3 to 17, Men's, Women's & Over 35s team for players of all abilities. The land the fields occupy was originally used as a tannery and rail yard. The McCook Family once ran a jersey stud farm on the land – hence the name.

What else?
has street parking, though no dedicated parking area. If travelling by public transport, the Windsor train station is in the next street. Willow and Spoon is close by those craving for a coffee. See my review of Willow and Spoon here .
