This is a naming anniversary festival with heaps to do
The Maylands Street Festival is having a birthday - this year, it is celebrating its 120th anniversary! Since 1898, Maylands was named, Maylands, with little fuss, so this festival is a "naming" anniversary!
This year, there will be celebrations for the 120th anniversary and this will be marked by a fun-filled day in honour of this momentous occasion! Organisers are happy that 10 years after the inaugural event, this festival is still running strong.
There will be plenty of activities for the young ones to enjoy and after being nominated one of the three "coolest suburbs" in Australia by Lonely Planet, modern urban hipsters will mingle with late 19th century Maylands memories.
There will be a children's zone set up in The Rise area again this year, plus the Dome cafe will also have a children's area during the festival. There will be pop up bars and coffee shops, and art installations to provide opportunities for all visitors to enjoy themselves.
Maylands Festival a few years ago
You can visit the Old Police Station to find out about the brickworks or Perth's first airport and how we helped build WA's pipelines. Or perhaps just relax with a drink and some food whilst listening to great roving music or bands on the main stage. Or maybe a horse carriage ride would appeal to you, where you can take in some of the street art that helps make Maylands such a fabulous area.
Maylands is, of course, the perfect blend of old and new with its cafe strip and many new shops! It will be happening near the Maylands Railway Station so will be very easy to get to without any parking problems.
Maylands has become a cosmopolitan area when it comes to our culinary choices and the Street Festival will be no different with food from the Philippines to Brazil and France to Japan - there will be something for everyone - but the real question is "What to Eat?" With so much choice and so much delicious food on offer, this will be a problem!
Hard to decide when there is so much good food!
A week after these festivities, there will be the Maylands Hawkers Market which will be on 26th May 2018 and also promise to be a great event which you can attend after work.
You can read some review on these Twilight Markets at this website.
Make sure you help celebrate this 120th anniversary by jotting the date down in your mobile or calendar and making sure you come and join in these Maylands festivities!
