The Maya Indian restaurant sits in the heart of the famed, bustling Café Strip of Fremantle, the restaurant's overall atmosphere directly contrasting that of its surroundings. The Maya is refreshingly sophisticated and serene, the low lighting throughout the restaurant assists in providing a strong sense of warmth and intimacy.

There is also a charming little bar situated upstairs to the main restaurant, for those that like to enjoy a beverage or two in privacy before their dinner.

My family and I were greeted upon arriving by a friendly staff member with a welcoming smile and I am pleased to say that the service remained excellent throughout our entire evening.
After a brief trip upstairs to the bar, where we enjoyed some refreshing cider and beer, we headed downstairs to be seated.

Because we were in a large group, we were required to choose a set group menu in advance. There are three set menus to choose from, the Punjab menu, Delhi menu and Bombay menu. All three sounded equally generous and delicious, but we chose the Delhi menu at $43 per person, which consisted of chicken tikka, seekh kebabs, eggplant pekoras and garlic naan as entrees and chicken mumtaz (butter chicken), lamb palak, prawn masala, zucchini kofta, riata, pappadums, plain naan and basmati pulao as mains.

We couldn't have been happier with our choice, every single dish was mouth-watering and each seemed to be even tastier than the dish that preceded it. And with such variety in the one menu, it was wonderfully satisfying and a definite crowd pleaser. We were all absolutely delighted at the vast array of cooking techniques, delectable textures, intricate and complex flavours and use of such fragrant fresh herbs and spices.

I had chosen the Maya to be the venue of my birthday dinner because of its shining reputation due to the plethora of coveted awards and accolades the restaurant has won since it began in 1992. Including 6 Gold Plate awards, Best Indian - Gourmet Traveller, Australian Restaurant Guide 2012, Best Indian "Coveted One Star" The West Australian Good Food Guide 2011, "Award For Excellence" Best Indian Restaurant WA 2005 - 2009 by RCIA and "Award For Excellence" Best Indian Restaurant Australia 2006 by RCIA to name a few.

After finally having the pleasure of dining there I can happily say that their reputation for being one of the best Indian restaurants in W.A is well deserved. My guests and I all agreed that it really was the best Indian food we have ever tasted and we were delighted to experience the most hospitable customer service we have ever received as well.
