With dozens of breathtaking wineries and restaurants on the Mornington Peninsula its hard to decide which ones to visit. Max's Restaurant has not just received scores of hospitality and catering awards, it can also lay claim to being the first ever winery restaurant on the Mornington Peninsula. Now owned by Max Pagoni, the restaurant was established in 1993 amid strong speculation that it would not survive.
The 100 seat restaurant is set in the heart of the Red Hill Estate Winery providing magnificent views of Westernport Bay, Phillip Island and Seal Rock. With outdoor as well as indoor dining, Max's restaurant can cater for both large functions and casual lunches.
Diners can enjoy table service and a daily menu featuring Modern Australian-Italian inspired cuisine. Max's Tuscan Porchetta is so popular that it is a permanent fixture on what is otherwise mostly a seasonal menu. If you happen to be blessed with a stunning sunny day at the winery, treat yourself to a Prawns On the Lawn platter for lunch during the week.
The cellar door at Max's is also worth a step into. With everything from local produce, open fire, artworks, cheese and even Max's own range of extra virgin balsamic oils and vinegar. The cellar door can also cater for corporate and large bookings with the inclusion of blind tastings, games and even serious tutored tastings.
The wine list includes both Red Hill Estate wines as well as other highly regarded vintages. What esteemed estate wouldn't be complete without luxury accommodation? Max's retreats are luxurious boasting picturesque views from secluded locations on the Peninsula's Hinterland.
Max's winery restaurant has won the 2010 Victorian Tourism award,2010 Qantas Australian Tourism award as well as the 2002 American Express Restaurant award. Max also enjoys notable personal success. When he isn't enjoying his stunning restaurant he is off running Italian cooking tours.
