Caffe DM is located at 120 Tennyson Rd Mortlake right near the Breakfast Point Estate and are commercial wholesalers of coffee beans and accessories. Max's Place is the funky little café attached to the warehouse. Here you can sample their tasty coffee which is roasted on their premises. The café itself has that rustic warehouse feel with high ceilings, painted concrete and brickwork. There are pallets used as display stands, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and eclectic tables and chairs inside. There is also some outdoor seating on the side and out front.
Inside you can find a colourful and plentiful assortment of Panettone (Italian Christmas/Easter cakes) in all sorts of formations and wrapping. If you know the Cadbury's ad that tells you "what to bring when you are told not to bring a thing", well, ditch the chocolates and take one of these delicious cakes instead. Especially for Christmas or Easter, they come well presented in a gift style wrapping or tin.
Panettone, what to bring when you are told not to bring a thing.
There is also a great variety of balsamic vinegars, coffees, teas, chai, oils, pasta, biscotti and other Italian style deli products, as well as a pretty serious range of coffee machines for sale. Need a gift for a coffee or tea lover? They have a range of cups, saucers, teapots, as well as an assortment of already wrapped gift boxes.
The café itself has an inner city vibe and I imagine it would be a great place to laze in the morning or afternoon with a newspaper and a good coffee, while enjoying one of their famous "baked fresh daily" croissants. On this day I tried the traditional Cannoli with Ricotta filling and it was delicious as was my coffee. While they don't have a regular permanent menu, there were plenty of other cakes, biscotti and sweet style snacks to choose from, as well as a small selection of pizza's.

Over in the seating area, one interesting corner houses a bookshelf and a couch for Max's Book Exchange. Here you can take a book as long as you bring one. Or perhaps sit and have a read while enjoying a coffee.
