You'll find Max Brenner Chocolate Bar located at the bottom of High Street, on the UNSW campus. This is the place to be if you wish to achieve that perfect paunch or rotund rear. If the sugar-induced coma doesn't get you hooked, the hot chocolate will certainly have you coming back for more. They say chocolate is addictive; and Max Brenner is truly the proof in the pudding. Some people have said chocolate can be a powerful aphrodisiac, which makes this the perfect spot to bring your hot date. It's also popular among students and families; in fact, there's something for everyone at Max Brenner.
Starting with the beverages, Max Brenner is world famous for their wide range of sumptuous hot chocolates. The 'Italian Thick Hot Chocolate' is an absolute must try; it's perfect for a cold winter's day. However, since it is currently summer, Max Brenner have started selling their flavoursome white chocolate chai in an iced version (pictured). It is lots of fun to pour; you sit the little pot over your cup and it comes streaming out the bottom. It is sweet, spicy and very invigorating. They do a pretty decent coffee too, but why waste your time on coffee when you can enjoy a sensational 'Bubble Gum Milkshake'? The 'Mexican Spicy Hot Chocolate' is great for chili lovers and so comforting in winter. Choose between milk, dark or white chocolate. The drinks range from $3.90-$8.60.
Moving right on to the delectable dessert menu. The 'Tutti-Frutti Waffles' are sweet and sensational. They are crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside; they also come with ice-cream (your choice of chocolate or vanilla, go with chocolate) and fresh cut strawberries and banana. Oh, and the little pot of melted chocolate is an additional must. You'll never go back to boring waffles again. The single will set you back $14.50 so it's better value to share a double for $19.50. Another interesting menu option is the 'Choc-Banana Pizza'. Sounds crazy right? A chocolate pizza; this Max guy must be mental. But this one is a real crowd pleaser. It's covered in gooey marshmallows and drizzled with melted chocolate, all served up on a sweet bread base. You can't go wrong and it's a great one to share. A whole dessert pizza can easily serve three people and will only cost you $17.00. Max Brenner are always adding new and exciting specials to their menu, so you know you won't get bored with the place.
Max Brenner also sell some great pastry options such as the traditional 'Chocolate Cinnamon Babka' which comes served with a little pot of melted chocolate. Their chocolate is a little sweet for some people, so if you like your chocolate less sweet, this may not be the place for you. Kids will go nuts for their ice-cream sundaes and 'I-Scream Max-Wich' ($13.50).
This location is typically quiet when university students are on break but can fill up during the weekdays around lunchtime. The good thing about the place is that they are open late, so why not head there after dinner for a naughty night out? The décor is warm and inviting and staff are always friendly. You'll feel right at home. The table candles are a nice touch, and the smell is intoxicatingly sensuous.
They've even got a boutique chocolate shop in store which is perfect for gift shopping, or even better for a little something to add to the kitchen cupboard. Come on, we all have a secret stash. If you don't, you'd better start one because you never know when you'll need some emergency chocolate. Be careful though, it can be easy to spend all your money here.
