Chocolate lovers far and wide are known to congregate in one of the numerous Max Brenner chocolate cafes sprawled throughout Sydney, from St Ives to Wynyard to Bondi Junction. But how many have dared to order 'The Spectacular Choc-Fudge Brownie Sundae'?
A companion and myself dared, one night, following a below average dinner.
Let me break it down for you. Picture two giant scoops of chocolate ice cream, covered by a generous serving of caramelised pecans, which is then surrounded by six chocolate brownies. If that's not enough, it is served with pure melted chocolate for you to pour over as well as Max Brenner's unique dark chocolate 'waffle balls'.
Just one look at it and you know it definitely isn't a dessert for the faint-hearted.
The caramelised pecans were surprisingly good as it added crunch and a distinct caramel twist to the soft creaminess of the chocolate ice cream. The brownies were delicious and had the perfect texture, however I did think six of them was a bit excessive.
The most perplexing part for me were the waffle balls. With a crunchy shell on the outside, I was blown away when, placing them in my mouth, they began to melt and ooze chocolate sauce from their centre. They added an extra element of surprise and chocolate-y goodness to this unique sundae.
So if you're planning it as dessert, just remember to leave some room for it. Available in all Max Brenner cafes, it is a sundae that you won't forget and that you won't regret. Do you dare?
