I love trying new food and new restaurants. My other passions are Origami www.weekendnotes.com/origami-classes-japan-australia-friendship-association/ and Pokémon www.weekendnotes.com/pokemon-center-tokyo/

One of two dining facilities at Mawson Lakes Hotel, the bistro offers a more "upmarket" ambience compared to the Club Bar next door. Each main meal includes access to the salad bar where you can pick a variety of salads, cold seafood and vegetable side dishes to accompany your meal.

Their Salt and Pepper Squid dish is one of the best we have tasted, with squid that is tender and seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper seasoning, accompanied with potato wedges which were fried to golden brown with fluffy interiors. Served with the dish are a lemon wedge and a house made dipping sauce to enrich the flavour of the squid.

Although we found the Cajun Pork Fillet to be a bit overcooked, the Cajun seasoning still helped to lift the flavour of the pork. The smashed potatoes accompanying the pork had fluffy interiors and the tangy tzatziki sauce served with the dish was a good partner to the slightly spicy flavour the pork.

Turkey Pizza was one of the specials offered for the day. It featured generous serving of turkey and greens on a freshly made pizza base.

We were surprised to find crabs and prawns included in the salad bar in addition to the usual selection of salads and greens.

The décor of the restaurant give it a cosy, slightly formal feel with the tables spaced a good distance from each other. There is amble parking around the restaurant, with undercover parking for hotel guests and people dining here or at the Club Bar.
