Matty B is a Philosophical Bogan, here to speak his musings with you at this years Sydney Comedy Festival
Matty B is a Philosophical Bogan, here to speak his musings with you at this year's Sydney Comedy Festival.
I was first introduced to Matty's comedy last year, when he performed alongside Scott Dettrick and Ander Barnett for 'Three Blokes Telling Jokes', a split bill where they all shared their opinions on life, in true Aussie style.
Since then, he has performed at both Adelaide and Sydney Fringe, as well as last year's Sydney Comedy Festival.
Philosophical Bogan is his first solo show. It delves into his life, growing up in a country town, with a doctor of psychology for a father. This environment is what led him to become the man that he is today: a Philosophical Bogan.
The show is already a hit, with comedian Tim Ferguson rating it five stars, and referring to it as 'absolute comedy genius'. Mikey Robbins has also called him 'one of Australia's best comedians'.
I asked Matty to describe his comedy for us, in his own words:
."My show is about my perspective on life. It's a reflection of the juxtaposition between being proudly blue collar, and deeply contemplative. But really, that is looking too deeply for meaning in what is essentially an hour of jokes that I reckon are fucking funny.
."Philosophical Bogan is my first show. I've done Sydney Fringe, Adelaide Fringe, and SCF before. I would describe my comedy as: punchy, dry, slightly left-of-centre one-liners."
Who are your other picks for shows to see at the festival?
."Luke Heggie, Corey White, Damien Power."
Matty is definitely one of my picks for an hour of comedy that you won't forget.
