The 2023 at Bribie Island Community Arts Centre is now in its 25th year. It's an open prize exhibition with no set categories. Artists may create in any media (except video). Submissions are now open until 25 June.

The Bribie Island Community Arts Centre began as a Chamber of Commerce project to celebrate the Australia's bicentenary. The Centre was designed by leading Gallery Architect Paul Wallace and was opened on the 11 December 1988. What has resulted is one of Australia's largest and busiest arts centres, with space for display, retail, workshops and studios, and catering for more than twenty kinds of arts and crafts. The gallery and studios are for hire and the centre has a range of different spaces to suit every need.

The Gala Opening Night for the exhibition at the Matthew Flinders Gallery is Friday 14 July. The event will run until 4 August. The first prize is a whopping $5000. The second prize is $2000. There are also two Highly Commended prizes of $500, plus a $500 People's Choice prize and a $500 prize for BICAS Members.

The organising committee chairman, Stephanie White, said that the event relied for its success on the generosity of local sponsors. She pointed out that there are daily artist demonstrations at the centre during the exhibition to create an interactive vibe. Some of these artists in attendance are past winners. The gallery (which the art prize named is after), is a gathering place and focus for local and visiting artists from around the region and interstate. The art competition is judged and run by local volunteers.

The entry deadline is Sunday 25 June. Artists who enter by 18 June will receive an early bird discount which is a saving of $5 per entry, so get your skates (or smocks) on.
