Every year in Newcastle during the September/October school holidays, the Mattara Festival springs into action. It's one of our city's biggest annual amusement events.

This year will be no exception with a great array of entertainment, food, art and music as well as a jam packed daily program promoting different aspects of life. Mattara is located down at the beautiful Newcastle Foreshore and will operate 10am to 5pm every day of opening with individual events scheduled at specific times. A daily event calendar is available on the website .

Themed Days include:

As part of the festivities of Mattara, Shannon's Hill Climb is one of the most famous events. Taking place this year on the 6th and 7th of October, the King Edward Park course is considered one of the most challenging hill climb courses in Australia. Sir Jack Brabham described it as "the most demanding and best set up hillclimb" in Australia. The record for the 1.094km track is 33.63 seconds held by Neil Farr. Sunday competition is open to all cars and bikes, where Monday is for Club Cars. If you are interested in displaying your car, please contact Andy Peters on 0407 039 495.
