Matt Tarrant bends the mind once again
Matt Tarrant has been astounding crowds in Adelaide for over six years. Adelaide born and bred, Matt Tarrant comes back year after year to put on a show for the city he loves. Word of mouth alone should say volumes about the quality of his work but if that isn't enough, maybe the awards that he wins year after year can vouch for him.

Matt Tarrant's show changes each and every Fringe and although he bills himself as a magician he is much more of a mentalist. As he becomes more confident in his abilities, his show evolves and his tricks change and become more refined. In More Unsolved, Matt leans more on the mentalism side of his talents.

Matt Tarrant is an amazing mentalism talent. Considering the complexity of his tricks and the fact he can consistently pull it off night after night, goes to show how amazing this performer is. As Matt focuses more on the mentalism side though that does limit him in some ways. This isn't a flashy show in any sense of the imagination. Magic tricks can be creative with lots of fireworks and pomp. Tricks based on mentalism require extensive audience participation, hence you aren't able to pull off anything as 'elaborate' with the tools you have at hand.

I put elaborate in quotations as to not take away from the difficulty of Tarrant's tricks. What he is able to pull off is still mind-boggling. From establishing a 'mental' link between two audience members, so one can feel when the other is touched to having audience members pull strings out of his mouth, hoping they don't pull the string attached to the 3-pronged hook. These are still chilling to behold and will leave audiences breathless. There's no bells and whistles here. Just pure talent.

Matt Tarrant is performing in Gluttony every night until March 17th.
